Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of the Medical Center (CUMC) and to the University's (CU) Vice President for Human Resources, this position serves as a member of both CUMC and CU's senior leadership team/s and will play a significant role in part of advancing the CUMC's mission in teaching, research, and patient-care.

The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) will lead the Human Resources function at CUMC, and focus on all aspects of talent management which include recruitment, on-boarding, mentoring, performance management, retention strategies, leadership and organizational assessment, training, coaching, employee and labor relations, compliance, employee service center operations pertaining to University employees working in affiliate hospital space.

This position will be supported by the University's shared-services organizational which includes: benefits and compensation design and administration, labor relations leadership, human resources information systems management, centralized policy and planning, payroll, and HR project management services.

The CHRO will represent CUMC to the HR community and contribute to the development of University-wide policies and procedures while playing a leadership role in all areas of HR governance affecting employees at CUMC.

Stakeholders and Primary Clients, Client Groups:

- CUMC Central Administration consisting of the Office of the Executive Vice President, CUMC Operations, Finance, and Development.
- Deans and senior leadership (inc. business managers/departmental administrators) within College of Physicians & Surgeons, College of Dental Medicine, Mailman School of Public Health and School of Nursing.
- Leadership and staff of Columbia's Faculty Practice Organization
- Officers, Non-union Support Staff, and Union employees
- Faculty and Officers of Research **

** These groups are supported primarily by Faculty Affairs. CUMC Human Resources provides assistance when requested.

General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. At least 15+ years of significant experience and successful track record of delivering results in large, complex, decentralized organizations with diverse employee populations is required. Direct management experience of high-performance work-force mandatory.

Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Specifically, the Chief Human Resources Officer will demonstrate the following attributes:

- The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and relationship management skills along with the attributes necessary to lead a motivated, high-performing staff. S/he will demonstrate the ability to interact comfortably with a wide range of constituents and to establish rapport with employees at all levels. S/he will be both a team and consensus builder and an advocate for HR and school/department extended HR Network.
- The ability to understand and thrive in a world-class academic medical and research environment. S/he must be able to operate in a highly complex, multi-disciplinary operation where success is achieved through relationship and influence management. Individual must possess a strong business accumen and be able to provide cost/value-based, strategic direction across multiple operating units.
- Experience accomplishing significant cultural and organizational transformation. Building service-oriented HR function and implementing effective and efficient processes.
- Must be able to provide "success stories" of coaching senior executives and mentoring and developing high-caliber employees and teams.
- Individual will be a world-class generalist with deep knowledge of employee and labor relations (multiple bargining units), and all aspects of talent management from recruitment to on-boarding, performance management, training/development, and retention.

Preferred Qualifications: - An advanced degree strongly preferred.
- Human Resources Certification strongly preferred.
- Experience working with external agencies such as the Joint Commission, Department of Homeland Security etc. also strongly preferred.
