Job Summary
Director of Budget and Financial Reporting

Advertised Summary Job Description: The Director of Budget and Financial Reporting will report to the Associate Vice Dean for Finance of the College of Physicians and Surgeons. The Director of Budget and Financial Reporting has ultimate responsibility for constructing, monitoring and reporting for the overall budget for P&S. Responsibilities include:

- Oversee the preparation and performance of the budgets of the departments, centers and institutes of P&S and maintain details of operations and funding for each department;

-Issue monthly financial and operational reports at the School level and at the department/center/ institute level which identify variances, include explanations and corrective action plans;

-Develop plans and opportunities for synergy and cost cutting;

-Validate business plans proposed by units;
-Forecast trends in finance and operations for the departments and divisions within P&S;

-Review all current "shadow systems" within P & S and develop standardized reports that will eliminate the need for "shadow systems";

-Create internal reports for P&S senior management on a monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc basis;

-Prepare financial profiles and projections;

-Monitor the budget and accounting calendars and ensure that all deadlines are met;

-Work with departmental administrators, CUMC Finance Office and the FPO to resolve disputes;

-Ensure that all work conforms to accounting budgeting rules and guidelines;
- Prepare, monitor and ensure that the P&S central administrative budget meets targets;

-Identify existing or potential problem areas.

General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in accounting or finance related field, as well as ten years of progressively comprehensive financial planning responsibility in a large, complex organization, required.

Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must be able to design reports for senior management

-Perform quantitative, financial and variance analyses as well as financial modeling

-Design, implement and modify standards and procedures to improve workflow

-Work with minimal oversight to solve problems

-Express excellent oral and written communication skills

-Demonstrate strong computer proficiency (Microsoft Excel and Word), and familiarity with database design

-Work closely and effectively with a diverse group of senior administrators

-Determine priorities and work independently

-Perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications: MBA or comparable advanced degree preferred.
