Chairperson - Undergraduate Architecture

POSITION SUMMARY:
The School of Architecture at Pratt Institute invites nominations and applications for the position of Chairperson for the Undergraduate Architecture Department. With more than 100 full and part-time faculty members, the Undergraduate Architecture program serves a student body of 550 and awards a Bachelor of Architecture degree for its five-year program.
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Architecture, the chairperson provides academic and administrative leadership for the department. This administrative appointment, which is available July 1, 2010, carries a 12-month per year workload and a three-year contract which may be renewed.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and develop the department's curriculum and educational programs.
- Recruit, supervise, evaluate and develop faculty.
- Teach at least one course per semester.
- Recruit and advise students.
- Establish links to professional organizations and leading practitioners in the field; and represent the department to the profession.
- Administer the department's budget.
- Serve on School and Institute committees.
- See to the accreditation of the department with NAAB and MSCHE.
- Assist the dean and Development with funding-raising by developing grants and fundraising initiatives.
- Promote a rich and stimulating environment for teaching, design, research, professional practice.
- Carry out special projects as assigned by the Dean.
- Perform all other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master's degree in architecture or a related field is required; a professional architecture degree is strongly preferred. Applicants should have a specialization in architectural design, theory and/or technology as well as administrative experience, preferably in higher education. We require at least five (5) years' professional experience and at least five (5) years' college level teaching experience; demonstrated leadership ability; and recognized standing in the field. Architecture license strongly preferred.
